Pennecon is seeking qualified individuals to work at its Nalunaq Construction Site in Greenland. As we ramp up with this project, we are seeking motivated and talented individuals who possess the technical skills required to contribute to an industrial project team. 

Role: Safety Advisor
Location: Nalunaq, Greenland

Responsible for promoting, executing, and continuously evaluating the health, safety, and environment (HSE) program through inspections, audits and continuous improvement. The Safety Advisor shall work closely with the Management team and employees to increase safety awareness and promote best practices within the workplace.  

The Safety Advisor will be responsible for booking and maintain training records, employee orientations and all aspects of the HSE program within the workplace including ensuring compliance with all regulatory authorities and the client requirements.

Duties include:

  • Responsible to develop and promote a zero harm safety culture in the execution of the work and support the Company’s safety, quality and environment programs;
  • Provide support to the Disability Manager to ensure work related injuries are managed effectively;
  • Initiate, promote, implement and maintain health and safety projects and initiatives;
  • Effectively triage and provide medical support to any employee in need;
  • Ensure safety orientations are current and delivered effectively;
  • Provide team training as required;
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements;
  • Provide advice, guidance, coaching and mentoring to the project team on all safety and medical related matters;
  • Ensure Safe Work Procedures are current and complete for project site;
  • Conduct tool box meetings and safety audits and report on results;
  • Ensure incidents are investigated thoroughly and effectively, and responded to appropriately as required, including communicating to, training and following up with supervisors and employees;
  • Diligently encourage and promote positive and effective employee relations through communications initiatives, coaching supervisors, providing counseling to employees and monitoring employee satisfaction;
  • Conduct duties with enthusiasm and a positive, results- focused attitude;
  • Support company initiatives and policies enthusiastically;
  • Other duties as assigned

 

The Ideal Applicant for this position will possess the following:

Required Education and Experience

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Health and Safety field;
  • Experience working in a medical profession, triaging patients and administering first aid would be a strong asset;
  • Understanding of safety processes within a construction environment;
  • Past experience conducting safety audits;
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulations, company safety programs, documentation and reporting requirements, construction safe work practices, and equipment/operator certification requirements for place of work;
  • Must be able to review and revise site safe work practices and procedures to ensure consistency with company safety standards and compliance with site specific regulatory requirements;
  • Ability to manage the development of site safety plans;
  • Assessment of site specific requirements which include customer’s requirements, emergency protocols, safe work plans and procedures and regulatory requirements;
  • Experience with auditing site safety performance and evaluating program implementation;
  • Able to recommend corrective actions as needed and follow up to ensure implementation;
  • Excellent incident investigation skills;
  • Excellent leadership and conflict resolution skills.

  • This position will be required to be on an extended work schedule, with longer hours and weekend work necessary to progress the project in a short construction season
